Today I want to just highlight a particular topic in the ebook.
Â
The topic of Success vs. Happiness
Â
Robert begins the second chapter with a statement that I have personally felt I could associate with. I want you to listen and determine if you can relate to (believe) this statement as well…“I had to learn the hard way that success does not lead to happiness. It never has and it never will.”
Â
Success can bring you some short term joy and comfort but not happiness.
Â
In fact, even setting goals for achieving happiness don’t always create happiness.
Â
My personal Experience is a great example of that…(explain)
Â
You see, happiness doesn’t like to be chased…
Â
Robert talks about how to create the right environment, activities and qualities of life that will attract happiness. When you do this, you will be surprised how “easily” happiness appears in your life.
Â
PP #7 I choose to be happy can be difficult to do. But, creating a life that will attract happiness can be a simpler path at times.
Â
Remember this important idea…Success “the way the world defines it” will not bring happiness.
Â
Pleasing others does not bring happiness.
Nice cars, clothes, travel or things does not bring hapiness.
The perfect job doesn’t bring happiness.
Â
We all know people that have had everything that the world considers Success and yet suffered from Depression, Suicide, Anxiety, and basic Unhappiness.
Â
This is because…Having what you want doesn’t bring happiness.
The Dahli Lama said in his book…
Happiness doesn’t come from having what you want, but Wanting what you have.
Â
That is the path to true happiness.
Gratitude and acceptance is a path to happiness.
Â
The difficult also presents itself when you realize that just “reminding yourself daily” also isn’t the solution. Especially for those of us that Robert says are “addicted to success”. If you have spent your whole life chasing goals and success, it is sometime easy to forget that it won’t bring you happiness directly.
Â
So, how do you start to create that true and lasting happiness? Well you can start by reading the ebook and let Robert break down some ideas and things for you. lol
Â
But, so you don’t feel I opened the topic and left you hanging, here are a few ideas that I have implemented in my life you can also use to create an environment of success and happiness:
-
daily rituals to create happiness habits and patterns
-
gratitude practice to stay focused on appreciation for what you have
-
commitment to relationships to remind yourself that it more than just about YOU
Â
It’s my hope that you not only build a life that will attract and grow happiness, but also start to focus your efforts on Happiness and not just Success.
